Handling

You asked for it, you got it: handling like it was meant to be with a newly developed rear underbody and a sportier rear suspension that not only better stabilizes the Camry in straight-line driving but also adds more quickness and agility to the mix. Optimized steering gear ratio, column Electric Power Steering, front suspension inversely wound coil springs, and side-mirror and rear lamp aerodynamic fins seal the deal when it comes to improved handling performance.
 

4-Cylinder Punch

With more than a 5% increase in horsepower (from 169 to 178), this latest version of the 2.5 Litre 4-Cylinder engine ratchets up the power and outmuscles its competitors while actually increasing fuel efficiency. With a combined class-leading 7.0L/100Km*, the new 2.5L bests the Ford Fusion and even the smaller 2.4L engines of segment rivals such as the Honda Accord, Chevrolet Malibu and Hyundai Sonata. All thanks to the use of the latest in efficient, lightweight, low-emission technologies such as TCV (Tumble Control Valves), to reduce weight and increase performance. Even the engine cover has been re-designed to reduce weight and better muffle engine noise

V6 Fine-Tuning

Best-in-class fuel consumption isn't just for the 4-cylinder models. Featuring lightweight and quiet Dual VVT-i, the already powerful and lean running 268-horsepower 3.5L V6 has been improved in subtle ways that deliver top rated 8.2L/100km fuel efficiency* without hindering the engine's performance. Changes include altering the engine oil viscosity to keep down oil-related friction losses. Power transfer efficiency has been improved through the addition of ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) warmer for times when the engine is cold.

Transmission Smoothness

Be it for 4-Cylinder or V6 engine, Camry's Gated-shift 6-speed Automatic Transmission is designed with one thing in mind: to enhance performance and driveability while achieving top fuel economy. Featuring revised controls and improved hardware, the latest version 6-speed boasts a change in the final gear ratio to allow for high-speed driving at a lower engine speed. The result? Even smoother gear shifting and best-in-class fuel efficiency*.

Shifting to Sport

Camry features Multi-mode Automatic Transmission, allowing for a manual-like shift feeling through the +(UP)/-(DOWN) shift switches in S Position. The SE also has Paddle Shifters located on the steering wheel to achieve the same result. And, by engaging the D-range Paddle Active Control, you can select the shift range with the press of a switch – even when driving in the D position. To enhance that sporty driving feel even further, the SE features Highly Responsive Upshift Control as well as Blipping Downshift Control, designed to immediately bring engine speed to that needed for the selected gear.

Airbags

With the addition of Dual stage SRS Front-Passenger Knee Airbag and Rear-Seat Side airbags, every Camry now carries a class-leading 10 standard airbags for greater rider protection – more than both Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata. This includes Curtain Shield airbags to help protect occupants' heads in case of a side collision.

Damage Control

Camry is designed for effective impact absorption in case of a collision, thus helping to keep cabin deformation at a minimum. Not only is frontal and side collision energy absorbed and dispersed, but also that coming from a roof collision. As well, a concave front bumper absorber design reduces intrusion by controlling the vehicle under-ride in a frontal collision.

Star Safety System™

The Toyota Star Safety System™ features six advanced accident avoidance technologies that help keep you out of trouble. Included are an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), and Smart Stop Technology (SST). As well, Traction Control (TRAC) helps stabilize the vehicle when starting or accelerating on slippery roads, and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) automatically adjusts engine output and braking in case of over- or under-steering during cornering. A TRAC/VSC OFF switch allows you to operate more freely when trying to free the vehicle from mud or snow.

Rigid Rules

Through the use of new stronger yet lighter high tensile strength sheet steel, the 2012 Camry adds handling stability while reducing vehicle weight. High-impact areas such as rear bumpers feature thin and high tensile aluminum while a newly developed resin allows for thinner but just as strong front and rear bumper covers. Other improvements include: modified cowl section to create a more rigid suspension area; increased front and read door rigidity; and new rear underbody and subframe for better control when turning and changing lanes.

Backup Camera

Now standard on the XLE and XLE V6 and available on the SE V6, the Backup Camera serves as an added safety feature while parking or otherwise backing up. Linked to available Audio Display, the camera will show not only the area behind the car and any obstacles but also an overlay of positioning lines for easier parking.
